Now we have hit the winter months, Hapuku are one of our prime targets. I would rate Hapuku is one of our finest eating fish in New Zealand. Nothing goes to waste, with the frames and head being ideal for smoking or making into fish stock.
Yesterday we headed wide on Provider, with long time clients Tony and Dion. Within seconds of the first drop both Tony and Dion were loaded up with solid hapuku.
The new Furuno DB9 sounder I was testing out for the team at ENL worked a treat in the deep.
We ended up with a nice bin full of hapuku and bass which we spent the next day processing and making sure nothing was wasted. We will post up some of the meals and recipes that result from this epic day on the ocean.
