The First Astronomers : How Indigenous Elders read the stars

As above, so below.

As fishermen, we’re more dialled into our relationship with celestial objects like the sun and moon than most men and women living on the planet in this age.

Walk down any street in the city and you will find more people looking down at a smartphone, than looking up at the sky for wisdom.

But….

Wind the clock back many generations, and men and women had an intricate knowledge of our connection with the sun, moon, stars and planets, and their impact on everything here on Earth. From food security to weather and all the cycles that provide life on this planet.

This book, The First Astronomers: How Indigenous Elders read the stars , Guided by six First Nations Elders, Duane Hamacher takes us on a journey across space and time to reveal the wisdom of the first astronomers.

Regardless of the continent and culture, past civilisations were master astronomers, with the naked eye.

Much of this knowledge has been passed down generation to generation, orally, and precedes many ‘discoveries’ claimed by Western culture by telescope.

I found it as fascinating read , as part of my journey of spending more time , looking UP and searching for more in the sky, that serves us here on this journey on Earth.

I highly recommend you get yourself a copy of this book, as another tool to reclaim universal knowledge that has been forgotten in these modern times. You can get yourself a copy here:
