RITE OF PASSAGE RETREATS and camps
honouring the tradition of boy to man to elder
Reflecting on what makes me the man I am today, the time I spent growing up in nature under the guidance of my Dad would be some of the most important times of my life.
This is where my passion for the ocean, for fishing, diving and cooking wild food came from, so to my values.
My Dad set many examples of what makes a good man - being humble, honest, standing up for what you believe in, mucking in and not being afraid to get your hands dirty, working hard, but also having fun. There are times and adventures I remember that scared the shit out of me as well, but they made me grateful for life - and still being here, and have given me resilience reserves and muscle memory to draw on later on in life.
Quality time in the outdoors is something I made sure I spent with my own children as they grew up, and still do now, as young adults. I especially think it is important when growing and mentoring young men.
Civilisations and cultures through the years have always held ‘Rite of Passage’ ceremonies for men.
I look at society these days - the stress, the busy-ness, the technology and screens , and some of the issues we are seeing in mens health - men still being boys well into their 30’s and 40’s even 50s and 60s - just look at the boyish behaviour of our politicians! and wonder whether we might be losing some of these traditions - of growing good men. It is fundamental we set the right values at a young age, and a powerful way to do this in special timeless process - called a Rite of Passage.
RITE OF PASSAGE RETREATS - designed for you
At Provider, we can tailor make your own ‘Rite of Passage’ retreat to spend quality time in nature with an important young man - Your son, stepson, Your Grandson, Your Nephew, or it could be a friends son you recognise needs a mentor. These are complex times, but going back in time - it has always taken a village to grow good men.
This is a good first step - if you feel you’d like to strengthen the bond you have with your young man.
Our Rite of Passage retreats incorporate fishing, getting out on the water, preparing and cooking wild food, some basic life skills, and give you some quality time away from screens and technology. All accommodation, activities and meals are included.
These retreats are a safe space for boys to be boys and to have some quality time, recognising that what makes men tick is different from women.
We build in stories that help them develop a connection with nature, ancestry, humility and values. We make sure they feel like a hero who has came through an adventure and honour their inner gifts that come out through this adventure.
We will work with your budget and time to plan something to suit.
RITE OF PASSAGE camps - with other father and son groups
We also run a larger Rite of Passage Father and Son camp twice a year.
All ages, all cultures welcome, into a judgement free space.
These are powerful, transformational events, where everyone, including the adults, get to become better versions of themselves.
We connect in with nature, ancestry and storytelling, plus come together in community to gather and cook our food.
As a community we get to witness and honour the gifts of every boy and man, and help them step up to the next level.
This is a powerful chance for fathers, sons, grandads, and uncles, or anyone who man who is mentoring a young man, to come into community to do this work.
