I am Worthy - Reflections from our July 2025 Men's Wellbeing Retreat

“That I am worthy”

There are many times we stop, pause and reflect what has come up, as we journey through our Men’s Wellbeing Retreats. Away from the day to day, away from the pressure, away from the noise and distractions, out in nature, your inner essence starts to speak its truth, so I was so proud to hear this realisation “I am worthy” - spoken by one of the men , on Men’s Retreat #37.

As men we often carry deep down, other false words spoken to us from a young age, we take on as truth, we trick ourselves with negative self talk in our own mind that is not true, we compare ourselves to others and chase some destination of happiness and success somewhere in the future, maybe in retirement - then what? We’re often so focused on being the provider, that we forget we’re worthy of love, peace and joy ourselves, right in this moment.

Our retreats are a reminder of the simple things in life. The breath. Connection to nature. Stillness. Peace. Quiet. Good food that nourishes the soul. Community and brotherhood. Real talk about what is showing up in your awareness. The retreats are a reminder to men, that to be of service to others, we need to prioritise our own emotional wellbeing, to do a stocktake of what is inside, to sometimes step into a new season, keep growing and nourish our inner landscape, not just control things around us as they have always been.

Universal law - everything is energy. Especially your thoughts. So by telling yourself ‘I am worthy’ you are literally opening up the universal gates of worth and abundance to flow to you. Ka pai brother!

This was the first retreat we’ve done, where I was the only one born in New Zealand, with ancestry going back generations in New Zealand. Every other man had chosen to bring their family here, to Aotearoa. They will be the ancestors talked about by their descendants, who chose this land for a better future. It was an honour to be able to add another layer to their connection to the land. To welcome them home.

On the fishing front, it was back to basics winter fishing, we stuck in close for this one out of the wind. All the fishing was in 10m of water or less, and we only needed a few hours each day to get an abundant feed of snapper and kahawai, plus a kingi giving us some fun on the light gear. Plenty to feast on back at base, and some to take home with new learnt recipes to show off their skills to their family back home. After feasting on prize bluefin tuna for a few weeks, I have to say, kahawai, prepared right is right up there - a couple of

the raw kahawai dishes we had were as good as any raw fish I’ve ever eaten. That’s the beauty of seasonality, eating fresh and what nature offers up.

Looking forward to our next one 19-22 August, 2 signed up so far, 2 spots remain , get in touch if you’d like to experience this 4 day retreat or return.
