Summer 2009 - Yellowfin on a Stella, Big Kingfish, Hapuka, Big Albies and a sweet summer of fishing
There is nothing like walking out the door in shorts and T shirt at 5.30am in the morning! Summer has been sweet, and the fishing even sweeter.
The Tairua coast has been jammed packed full of bait and there has been some sweet little sessions on the coast before heading wide. A livey out under a balloon - and BOOM!
Big fat kingfish to 25kg have been the norm jigging and pins and theres been some nice puka thrown in on the low foul. Simon Gooder nailed a real nice one on a green and gold Katch1 spear jig inside the 100m line on some 50m foul - this time of year the puka can be in real close, its worth trying spots a little further inshore.
Out wide, the game fishing has been hot and we managed to nab a nice 50kg yellowfin on a Stella - yeehaa! Well done Sean Cummings! Man it was interesting to see the hurt a Stella can put on a fish of this size!
So many good fishing moments but the highlight for me was getting out overnight camping at Slipper Island with good mate Brett Collins and both our daughters, a nice little stray line session introducing our kids to fishing and seeing my girl catch her first legal snapper - good times!
