January 2007 Report - 20lb snapper and kingfish jigging
What a cool month on the water! It was great to host Lonnie McAlister who stayed with us at home. We mixed it up with some awesome live baiting in the shallows, jigging at McGregors rock at the Aldies which fished really well, and some stray lining in at the Aldies. The roughest day produced a nice 20pound snapper which came up and smashed a live koheru in 20m of water! Insane! We also fished the Shimano Standup Fishing Tournament out of Tairua and managed to snag a 20kg king from McGregors rock on a Black Magic jig! Things are hotting up on the game fishing front with Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin and Yellowfin all turning up in numbers.
