2008 Spring Report - Hapuka, Big Kingfish on Jigs and Surface Action
Well this has been my first spring really being out there on the water most days and it is remarkable what you pick up when you are out there more. This fishing has been nothing short of superb. Have got to meet so many people that I have an inkling will become life time mates as well.
Kingfish in between 20kg - 30kg on jigs are the norm, it is very rare I have to get anyone to fish a livebait at the moment, the jigging is simply superb.
Puka are a common catch on jigs as well, and mooching round the 100m foul inside the pins we've found some nice puka too.
Bust ups around us have been common and I've been going out most days armed with softbait rods and poppers in the rocket launcher to throw at these surface fish, we've knocked over some very nice fish on light gear as a result. Happy days!
