Gamefishing Season 2022 kicks off with a Marlin for Tia

With some nice blue water pushing into the Aldermen Islands, and a fair bit of action on the radio, I hatched a plan to get my good luck charm, Tia out with me.

With a fair idea of where the marlin where, thanks to the awesome SST charts from Ocean SST, we had a late start and a plan to be in the right zone over the full tide.

Sure enough an hour in the shotgun lure, a Bonze D Shackle, got eaten and Tia was hooked up! We had the fish to the boat really quick, on the leader then it decided to light up, took off with impressive jumps all round the boat! No matter how big they are, I’m always in awe of the sheer power, acceleration and beauty of these beautiful fish. It would have made a great smoker, which was my call, but Tia decided she wanted to let it go. Fair call! I’m sure there will be plenty more to come and one will be destined for the smoker soon!
