A charter to remember! Bluenose & a bonus marlin!

Seeing what I thought was a good little window of weather, I put the call out to a few people who were on standby. Sabin, who has been fishing with me for 11 odd years, Richard (his first trip) and Glen, (his second).

This was the first time the boys had met, and that’s one of the things I love about taking people fishing - seeing new friendships made!

It turned out the sea was a bit snottier than I thought, we contemplated kingi fishing, but pushed on for bluenose anyway. Turns out, it was the right call!

The weather cleared a little out wide, and the bluenose bit pretty hard! Sabin got a beauty (his first ever bluenose!), and all the boys took some nice ones home!

We had than enough bluenose to feed a few families by 1pm, so made a track towards the inside of Mayor. After showing the boys Sou East bay, a skippy was caught within a few minutes, rigged and deployed. About 45 minutes in, at about 2.55pm in the rigger cracked, and Sabin got hooked up to his first marlin. When it got close I asked Sabin what he wanted to do with it, and he was keen to feed a few families. He’s also a member of Muriwai Sports Fishing Club so we called into Whangamata Ocean Sports Club who were super hospitable with a courtesy weigh. Thanks Phil! Super cool seeing three guys who met each other for the first time yesterday working together to put this fish on the deck. And very cool to see Sabin, who’s been jumping on trips with me since 2011 get another dream fish. Cheers boys!
