Top Water Kingi Fishing

After what felt like a long winter here in New Zealand, the days are getting longer and all of a sudden the switch has been flicked!

It is always interesting to observe nature changing as the season changes, and at sea, that means a lot of life getting pushed up to the surface.

We’ve arrived out on the kingfish grounds the last few trips with petrels covering the surface feeding - that really gets me excited, it is a sign that the fishing is going to be pretty special.

It has been a really fun few weeks of kingfish smashing surface lures on the surface, pack attacks, and lots of yeehaas, hollering and screaming reels. Oh, and lots of yummy kingfish sashimi!

It was cool to bring one of my buddies Matt Land out and try some of his new top water lures - they sure go well!
